OnePlus, a subsidiary of Oppo, has released its latest flagship models, the OnePlus 12 and 12R.

Unlike other recent smartphone releases, OnePlus hasn’t followed the trend of implementing tonnes of AI features in its new line of phones, but instead decided to focus on the basics.

The OnePlus 12 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the same processor as the new Samsung S24 Ultra, which I covered in my previous post. Likewise, it features 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of storage. For the camera setup, OnePlus partnered with Hasselblad to implement a 48MP ultrawide camera, 50MP main camera, and a 64MP periscope telephoto camera that features a 3x optical zoom. On the front, you’ll find a 32MP selfie camera, which is complimented by a 2K 120Hz ProXDR display. In terms of battery, the OnePlus 12 is powered by a 5,400 mAh battery, which supports 100W fast charging and 50W wireless charging. In addition, it also boasts features like a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, 3D spatial audio from Dolby, an IR blaster, and much more.

The OnePlus 12R is very similar to the 12, but seems to be catered more towards the gaming market. Furthermore, instead of the Gen 3 Snapdragon, it features a Gen 2 chip, and can only support up to 256GB of storage. Also, the main camera has been replaced with a 50MP “IMX890” sensor from Sony, which still deems it more than capable of taking flagship-worthy photos, despite its cheaper price point.

Priced at $799, the OnePlus 12 is set to launch on the 6th of February, whilst the 12R is set to release the following week at $599.
