Pick-up trucks are one of the best-selling types of vehicles worldwide, as such the equipment they ship with can have a significant effect on a market. Wireless phone charging is becoming more and more popular in the automotive world with most new vehicles having an option to either add one as an accessory or include them as standard for higher level trims. It is interesting that GMC have decided to limit the number of Sierra pick-ups that will be available with wireless charging.

It’s interesting to see a reduction in the number of in-cabin wireless chargers being shipped, as it may be a sign that GMC are not seeing the demand for wireless chargers that was expected, this may speak to a change in the consumer or commercial markets, possibly both. It will be more telling if one of the more popular models such as the Ford F150 or the Ram Pickup decide to decrease the number of wireless chargers they provide. SAR covers the wireless charging opportunities in the automotive sector including Qi versions, power ratings and coil topology in its Wireless Power and Charging Technologies service.
