Dirac and Polestar collaborate to create next-gen in-car audio system for the Polestar 3

Polestar have teamed up with audio brand Bowers & Wilkins and audio technology vendor Dirac to create a bespoke audio experience in the new Polestar 3. The Polestar 3 is a premium BEV,

the audio system is described here – “With 1610 watts of power, 25 speakers, 3D Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos, the Bowers & Wilkins for Polestar audio system takes in-car listening to a level previously unheard of. Specifically developed for Polestar 3, it ensures optimal speaker placement and delivers an immersive experience true to the original recording.”. It also incorporates Dolby Atmos for spatial sound. The solution is available as an interior upgrade, as is the case for many premium audio solutions in cars, so it won’t be a standard feature in all vehicles delivered.

Dirac’s Opteo solution is used to improve the audio experience in the vehicle, using a suite of algorithms that help to overcome issues with speaker placement and interference. “Dirac Opteo Professional solution is built upon Dirac’s industry-first Intelligent Audio Platform (IAP). While the collaboration between Polestar, Bowers & Wilkins, and Dirac promises an outstanding audio experience, concerns linger regarding potential road noise interference, particularly at higher speeds. The absence of Road Noise Cancellation technology may pose challenges in maintaining optimal audio clarity in less than perfect driving conditions. Polestar will make available an upgraded “acoustic windscreen” to help with road noise, however this is likely to give only minor gains.

Nonetheless, Dirac’s partnership with Polestar underscores the growing importance of audio technology in the automotive industry. As vehicles evolve to become more connected and autonomous, the demand for premium audio experiences continues to soar. Dirac’s sound optimization solutions play a pivotal role in meeting this demand, enriching the driving experience and setting new benchmarks for in-car audio performance.
