GM announced this week that it will expand vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging technology across its range of Ultium-based electric vehicles (EVs) by 2026. V2H enables EV users to transfer energy from their vehicle to an enabled home to offset electricity needs during peak times and act as a backup during power outages. The first vehicles to receive the technology include the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ and the upcoming Cadillac ESCALADE IQ.

SAR provides a detailed analysis of the EV onboard charger (OBC) market in its EV charging service, including forecasts for bi-directional vs. uni-directional OBCs. Strong growth is predicted for bi-directional OBCs driven by vehicle-to-load (V2L), V2H and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) future requirements. The importance of V2G functionality is discussed in an article written by SAR, recently published in EE Times, available at the link below:
