The EU has announced a new law to officially ban the sale of new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles which burn fossil fuels (petrol and diesel) from 2035. The new laws passed in European Parliament stated that carmakers must achieve a 100% cut in CO2 emissions by 3025, meaning that the 27 member states would no longer be able to sell ICE vehicles.

SAR Insight & Consulting’s eMobility market tracker, tracks and forecasts sales of ICE vehicles, BEVs and PHEVs by 10 regions globally. Europe is projected to account for 30% of global sales of BEV & PHEV sales in 2031. This news reflects the pace at which legislation is driving electrification across the globe.
