Wi-Charge joins forces with Belkin to apply its over-the-air wireless power technology to consumer products

Belkin has reportedly signed a deal with Wi-Charge, an over-the-air (OTA) wireless power start up. This announcement came alongside rumours that it would be releasing two products by the end of 2022, which have since been denied by Belkin, who released a statement explaining that it has only committed to R&D on some product concepts.

Although this news therefore isn’t confirmation of mass market ready solutions, it is evidence of another tier one company showing interest in over-the-air wireless power. If products are brought to market – considering that Wi-Charge technology currently supplies up to 1W – it is likely that they will be lower power devices such as those enabling IoT sensor networks, which SAR predicts will be the leading early adoption application for this method of wireless power transfer in its Wireless Power and Charging Technologies report.
